SEAT and Cupra badge their smartphone integration as Full Link — the umbrella name for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on everything from the Ibiza to the Formentor. The good news for owners: almost every SEAT built since 2016 can run CarPlay in some form. The catch is that whether it works wirelessly, over a cable, or not until an activation is purchased depends heavily on the year and infotainment generation. Here's how to tell exactly what your car supports — and how to upgrade it if it's wired-only.

The quick answer

SEAT announced Full Link in September 2015, with the Ibiza first in line and the Leon and Toledo following for the 2016 model year. From then until roughly 2020, Full Link on SEAT's MIB2 infotainment meant wired CarPlay and Android Auto — you plugged your phone into the USB port every trip. Wireless Full Link only arrived with the newer MIB3 systems: the Cupra Formentor launched with it in 2020, and by mid-2021 SEAT listed wireless Full Link across the renewed Ibiza, Arona, Leon, Ateca and Tarraco ranges (availability varies by market and trim).

Model by model

Ibiza & Arona

Ibizas from around 2015–2021 on MIB2 systems support wired Full Link — though on many cars it was a paid option at purchase, so some left the factory with the hardware but without the software activation. Facelifted Ibiza and Arona models from 2021 onwards were announced with wireless Full Link. If your Ibiza connects by cable only, it's a prime candidate for a wireless adapter.

Leon

Third-generation Leons (roughly 2016–2020) follow the same pattern: wired CarPlay via Full Link, often optional. The Mk4 Leon (2020 on) moved to the MIB3 platform, and SEAT's 2021 line-up update included it among the models with wireless Full Link.

Ateca & Tarraco

The Ateca launched in 2016 with wired Full Link available from the start. Pre-facelift cars are wired-only; the facelifted Ateca (revealed mid-2020, on sale from late 2020) introduced wireless Full Link, and SEAT had rolled it across the Ateca and Tarraco ranges by mid-2021 — again depending on spec.

Cupra Formentor & Cupra Leon

Cupra's own models had the easiest ride. The Formentor — the first car developed exclusively for the Cupra brand — launched in 2020 on MIB3 with wireless Full Link, a 10-inch screen on standard engines and a 12-inch system on VZ trims. The Cupra Leon mirrors the Mk4 SEAT Leon. If you drive one of these, wireless CarPlay is likely already on board; your interest may instead be a cleaner way to mount and charge the phone.

The 60-second self-test

Trim levels and software versions vary enough that the only reliable check is your own car. Plug your iPhone into the car's data USB port with a proper cable: if CarPlay launches on the screen, your car has wired CarPlay — and a wireless adapter will work. If nothing happens, check the infotainment menu for a Full Link or Apple CarPlay entry; if it's absent on a 2015–2019 car, Full Link may simply never have been activated, which a SEAT dealer can usually resolve. You can also run your car through our compatibility checker for a quick verdict.

Making a wired SEAT wireless

If your SEAT passed the cable test, the HexaCharge Complete Kit converts that wired connection into wireless CarPlay or Android Auto: the adapter plugs into the same USB port your cable used, pairs with your phone over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and CarPlay starts automatically when you get in. The kit's MagSafe mount also gives the phone a secure, charging home — useful in the Ibiza and Leon, where the tray under the climate controls leaves phones sliding around.

How the HexaCharge wireless CarPlay adapter works in a SEAT or Cupra — plug into USB, phone connects wirelessly

Android phones without built-in MagSafe can use the HexaRing magnetic booster ring to attach to the mount. And because SEAT's MIB platforms are shared across the Volkswagen Group, the behaviour described here closely tracks what we covered in our VW Golf, Polo & Tiguan guide — worth a read if you're cross-shopping. For the full walkthrough of how adapters work and what to expect on first pairing, see how to add wireless CarPlay to a wired-only car.

We ship the HexaCharge kit with free worldwide shipping, duties paid — so SEAT and Cupra owners across Spain, the UK, Germany and the rest of Europe pay nothing extra at the border.
