Citroën's C3 and C4 are two of the most common cars on European roads, and most recent examples support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The catch: in nearly every C3 and C4 built before 2024, that connection is wired — your phone has to stay plugged into a USB cable. Here's exactly which years and screens support CarPlay, which new models finally go wireless from the factory, and how to cut the cable in the rest.

Citroën C3 (2016–2023): wired CarPlay on the 7-inch touchscreen

The third-generation C3 launched in late 2016 with a 7-inch touchscreen, and cars equipped with that screen support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through Citroën's Mirror Screen function — via cable only. Equipment varied by trim, year, and market: entry-level cars didn't always get the touchscreen or smartphone mirroring, while mid and upper trims (Feel, Shine, Flair and similar) generally did. The C3 Aircross from 2017 also offers wired CarPlay on a trim-dependent basis, with facelifted cars from 2021 moving to a larger 9-inch screen.

Because trim variation makes blanket claims unreliable, run this 30-second check in your own car: plug your phone into the USB port with a cable. If CarPlay or Android Auto launches on the screen, your car has factory support — and a wireless adapter will work. If nothing happens, try the other USB port (some are charge-only), and check that CarPlay is enabled in the phone's settings.

New C3 and ë-C3 (2024 onwards): wireless at last

The all-new C3 and electric ë-C3 changed the picture. In the UK, both Plus and Max trims come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen offering wireless smartphone mirroring, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, according to Citroën's own specification guide. If you're buying a 2024-or-newer C3 with the touchscreen, you won't need an adapter — though you may still want a proper mount and in-car charging, since wireless CarPlay doesn't charge your phone.

Citroën C4 and ë-C4 (2020 onwards): standard CarPlay, wired until the facelift

Every third-generation C4 — petrol, diesel, or the electric ë-C4 — comes with a 10-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range. UK road tests consistently confirm the same thing: every trim gets smartphone mirroring. On cars built before the late-2024 facelift, the factory connection is wired via USB — exactly the situation a wireless adapter is designed for.

The facelifted C4 and C4 X (ordered from late 2024, with first UK deliveries in early 2025) changed this: the updated 10-inch touchscreen supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from the entry You trim upwards. If you're driving a facelifted car, you're already covered; if yours is a 2020–2024 C4, read on.

How to make your Citroën's CarPlay wireless

If your C3 or C4 passed the cable test above, a wireless adapter converts that wired connection into a wireless one. The adapter plugs into the car's USB data port and stays there; your phone connects to the adapter over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and CarPlay or Android Auto starts automatically when you get in.

How a wireless CarPlay adapter works in a Citroën — adapter plugs into the USB port, phone connects wirelessly

The HexaCharge Complete Kit pairs the adapter with a MagSafe mount that charges your phone while you drive, which solves the one real drawback of going wireless. Setup in a C3 or C4 takes a few minutes: plug the adapter into the USB port, pair your phone once, and it reconnects automatically on every trip after that.

Mounting in the C3 and C4

The C4's deep, sculpted dashboard and the C3's compact cabin both suit a dash-mounted phone position, keeping the phone near your sightline without blocking vents. A vent mount works too, but Citroën's round vents on some C3 years hold heavier phones less firmly.

Installing a MagSafe car mount in a Citroën on the vent and on the HexaDash telescopic dash mount

If you'd rather mount on the dash or windscreen, the HexaDash telescopic dash mount gives you an adjustable arm that works well with the C4's angled dash top. For a deeper comparison of positions, see our guide to vent vs dash vs windscreen mounting.

Quick answers

Does the Citroën C3 have wireless CarPlay? Only the new C3/ë-C3 (2024 onwards) with the 10.25-inch touchscreen. Earlier C3s with the 7-inch screen support wired CarPlay, which an adapter can make wireless.

Does the Citroën C4 have wireless CarPlay? Facelifted C4 and C4 X models (late 2024 onwards) do, as standard. On 2020–2024 cars, CarPlay and Android Auto are standard but wired — an adapter converts the connection to wireless.

Will an adapter work in my car? If CarPlay launches when you plug in a cable, yes. Still unsure? Use our compatibility checker, or read our general guide to adding wireless CarPlay to a wired-only car.
