Wireless CarPlay for Peugeot: 208, 2008 & 3008 Guide

Peugeot has put Apple CarPlay in more of its range every year, but the 208, 2008 and 3008 span three different infotainment eras — and whether your car supports CarPlay at all, and whether it's wired or wireless, depends almost entirely on which era yours belongs to. Here's how to tell in under a minute, and how to go wireless if your Peugeot is wired-only.

The three Peugeot infotainment eras

Peugeot's smartphone projection is branded Mirror Screen, and it runs on three broad system generations:

SMEG and SMEG+ (roughly 2013–2016): these earlier touchscreens do not offer native CarPlay or Android Auto. If your first-generation 208 or 2008, or first-generation 3008, has one of these units, a plug-in adapter won't help — adapters extend an existing CarPlay connection, they can't create one. A full head-unit retrofit is the usual route for these cars.

NAC-era systems (roughly 2017 onwards): Peugeot's later touchscreens brought wired CarPlay via the USB port on most trims, though availability varied by market and specification in the transition years. This covers the second-generation 3008 (launched late 2016) and the second-generation 208 and 2008 (both from 2019).

i-Connect era (from around 2023): Peugeot's newest infotainment, fitted to the updated 208/e-208 and the third-generation 3008, supports factory wireless CarPlay on many versions — no cable, no adapter needed.

Model by model

Peugeot 208: second-generation cars (2019 onwards) have wired CarPlay as standard on most trims. The updated 208 and e-208 with i-Connect (around 2023 onwards) add factory wireless CarPlay on many versions. First-generation cars vary: later examples from about 2016 may support wired projection depending on specification, while earlier SMEG-equipped cars do not.

Peugeot 2008: the second-generation 2008 (2019 onwards) supports wired CarPlay natively on most trims. The 2013–2019 first generation mostly shipped with SMEG-family units that had no built-in CarPlay, though some later facelift cars (roughly 2017 on) may have wired projection depending on specification — the self-test below settles it.

Peugeot 3008: the second-generation 3008 (late 2016–2023) — the one with the original i-Cockpit and 8-inch touchscreen — supports wired CarPlay throughout most of its run, but no factory wireless option was offered. The third-generation 3008 (2024 onwards) moves to i-Connect with its panoramic display and offers wireless CarPlay.

The 30-second self-test

Because trim and software vary, the reliable check is your own USB port: plug your iPhone in with a good data cable and see if the CarPlay interface launches on the touchscreen. If it does, your car has wired CarPlay — and a wireless adapter will work. If nothing appears (and CarPlay is enabled in your phone's settings), your Peugeot likely predates native support, and an adapter isn't the fix.

Making a wired Peugeot wireless
