Vauxhall and Opel were relatively early to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — most models built from around 2016 onwards have it. What almost none of them have, though, is wireless CarPlay from the factory. If you drive a Corsa, Astra or Mokka and you're tired of plugging in a cable every time you get in, this guide covers which model years have CarPlay at all, which (few) support wireless out of the box, and how to convert the rest.

Which Vauxhall/Opel models have factory CarPlay?

CarPlay and Android Auto arrived with the R4.0 IntelliLink and Navi 4.0 IntelliLink systems, which rolled out across the range from roughly 2015–2016. As a rule of thumb:

  • Corsa — Corsa E models from around the 2016 facelift with R4.0 IntelliLink have wired CarPlay. The current Corsa F (2019 onwards) has it as standard on the 7" and 10" Multimedia systems.
  • Astra — Astra K (2015–2021) supports wired CarPlay via R4.0 / Navi 4.0 IntelliLink. The Astra L (2022 onwards) with the Pure Panel cockpit has smartphone integration as standard.
  • Mokka — Mokka X (2016–2019) got wired CarPlay with R4.0 IntelliLink. The current Mokka (2021 onwards) has it as standard.

Older systems — CD500, Navi 600/900, and pre-2016 IntelliLink units — do not support CarPlay at all, wired or wireless. For those cars, an adapter won't help; you'd need a head-unit replacement first.

The catch: it's almost always wired

Here's the part that surprises most owners. Even on fairly new cars, Vauxhall's factory CarPlay is a wired USB connection. Wireless smartphone connection only started appearing on the newest Pure Panel systems — broadly the Astra L and the most recent facelift versions of the Corsa and Mokka, and even then it varies by trim and software version. If you're unsure what your car has, the honest answer is: plug your phone in with a cable. If CarPlay launches only when cabled, you have wired CarPlay — which is exactly the situation a wireless adapter is designed for.

How to make your Vauxhall's CarPlay wireless

A wireless CarPlay adapter plugs into the same USB data port you'd normally connect your phone to. The car thinks a phone is plugged in; your actual phone talks to the adapter over Wi-Fi. After a one-time pairing, CarPlay (or Android Auto) starts automatically when you get in, with the phone still in your pocket or on a mount.

The requirements are simple: your car must already have working wired CarPlay or Android Auto, and you need to use the USB port that carries data (in most Corsa, Astra and Mokka models that's the port in the front centre console — check for a phone or CarPlay symbol next to it). A note for right-hand-drive cars

In UK and Irish Corsas and Astras, the USB port and tray sit low in the centre console, which is precisely where you don't want to be glancing while driving. With the connection handled by the adapter, mount the phone high — near the vents or on the dash top, angled toward the driver's side. If your dashboard shape doesn't suit a vent mount, a telescopic dash mount puts the phone at windscreen height without blocking your view.
